Wing Beach
You can't really see the waves because the reef is just outside of the frame.

Filis Pasgua & Filis Anu Nuebo!
We got to spend Christmas Eve at the Cabaels where we experienced our first Filipino feast. Half the branch was there so that was nice, especially since we had to miss the branch party.

I don't have any pictures from Christmas day, but that was fun too. I woke up around 8:00am, and stayed in the kitchen until 3:30pm, when we had to leave for a small get-together, with the Rider family and another couple.
As usually, I made way too much food....banana bread, mint chocolate fudge, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate cream pie, raspberry cream cake, onion dip, and a cheese ball. And I would have made pink salad if it weren't for every store on the island being out of cottage cheese.
I better hurry up and eat all of those leftovers so I can start my New Year's resolutions...

Forbidden Island & Christmas Parties
Homemade Lemonade

After our hike to Forbidden, we decided to stop by our neighbor's house for a bit, and I'm so glad we did! I got to help Katrina make freshly squeezed lemonade from the lemons right here at Facey Farms. It wasn't quite as lemony yellow as the picture above because we used brown sugar as the sweetener, but it was still delicious. We also ate some mandarin oranges right from the front yard.
Cookie Party!
I only have 2 regrets - not taking a cookie plate home and not taking a picture of the impressive spread. Just ask Eric, I love cookies! In fact, I'm a little bit of a cookie monster.

Yay for passport stamps
What is it about getting those stamps in your passport that is so gratifying? I'm not sure about the old ones, but the new passports have 20 pages for stamps! Can you imagine? Well, my passport is good until 2017 so if we go on 2 trips/year...I'm kidding of course. Right now I'm just excited for Bali.
In other news, Eric is in his first week of wearing contacts! I snuck into the optometrist's office behind Eric so I could watch the contacts go in for the first time. The assistant actually did it for him, and it was hilarious. It's not often that you get to see your husband squirm. Actually, I say "squirm", but he was sitting completely still. There was just something about his facial expression and his eyes that was just so pained...and priceless. I was trying my best not to laugh. Is that mean? The important thing is he's starting to adjust to them now (I think). Although, the first day, while at work, he put them in a case without any solution. The Dr didn't really bother to tell him about proper contact maintenace so Eric didn't even know that solution is kind of a must. Luckily, we were able to salvage them before they dried out.
Other than that, Eric was "warned" about a calling on Sunday. I guess I'm not supposed to tell you what it is yet, but let's just say that it's the calling he fears most. If only Bro. Bylund were in this branch...

Little nudge

A nice thing about Bali is that everything is so affordable. You can stay at a hotel for $10/night (& a really nice hotel for $50-60). So that makes this trip a little easier, BUT my wish list keeps getting longer and longer which means our wallet will be getting lighter and lighter.
Here are some of the things that I would LOVE to do & see (in no particular order):
- The volcanoes
- The temples
- The art, craftsmen and women at work
- The traditional dances
- The huge turtles
- Swim with the dolphins
- Elephant safari!
- Underwater tour
- Dinner Cruise
- The rice terraces
- The waterfalls
- Cremation ceremony
- The monkey jungle (where you can actually feed the monkeys)
- Camel ride
- Paragliding
- Bungee Jumping
- White water rafting
